Forms part of a group of field materials documenting Anita Dormody performing an Anglo-American song on August 19, 1939, collected by Sidney Robertson Cowell in Carmel, California.

This photograph was taken during a recording session on August 19, 1939, when Anita Dormody performed an Anglo-American song in Carmel, California. Sidney Robertson Cowell made the photograph as part of the documentation for that session.

Cowell directed the W.P.A. California Folk Music Project, which recorded and photographed traditional musicians across Northern California between 1938 and 1940. Rather than focusing on a single tradition, she deliberately worked across the state's immigrant communities. The project's collection includes portraits of musicians from Armenian, Icelandic, Italian, Portuguese, Mexican, Irish, and Serbian backgrounds.

The recordings and photographs from the project are held by the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
