1 negative : glass ; 5 x 7 in.

Arnold Genthe photographed a man identified only as Mr. Archibald in 1906. The portrait survives as a glass plate negative measuring five by seven inches.

Genthe kept a studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911, where this photograph was made. After his death in 1942, the Library of Congress acquired roughly 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio, including several thousand studio portraits of which this is one.

The negative is described as a copy portrait photograph, suggesting Genthe reproduced an existing image rather than photographing the subject directly. The record provides no further information about the sitter, the original portrait, or the reason for copying it.
