The early Railroad Stop Station at (then) Newark, California on the George W. Patterson's ranch. In the 1880s, the railroad built tracks across George Patterson's land while he was out of town. He sued, won a small monetary amount and a Stop Station. After George Patterson died in 1895, Clara Hawley Patterson, his wife, had the Stop Station built.
