This photograph was taken at a soldiers' monument in Easton, Pennsylvania, on May 30th, 1930. It shows members of Lafayette Post, a local chapter of the Grand Army of the Republic, the fraternal organisation of Union veterans of the Civil War.

The men are identified from left to right as Daniel Dachrodt (drummer), Allen Chifton, John Parker, Jos. Branch, Samuel Barry, Albert Clewell, P.H. Hager, Jacob Bitzer, J.E. Steele, Jeremiah Keller, Charles F. Chidsey, and Elton E. Cobb, a visiting member from Bradford County, New York.

The Grand Army of the Republic was founded in 1866 and its local posts ran reunions and memorial observances for decades after the war. By 1930, sixty-five years after the war's end, the surviving veterans were elderly men. The date, May 30th, was Memorial Day, long observed by the organisation.

The photographer was Clarence Edward Felker.
