George W. Stewart was an early resident of Visalia, CA, having been born in 1857 in Placerville, CA. He began as a journalist and in 1884 became editor of the Visalia Delta newspaper. In 1890, he became "the father of Sequoia National Park," and served many years as the park's superintendent. His extensive collection of pioneer Visalia and Tulare County documents, photographs and reminiscences was donated to the Annie R. Mitchell History Room at the Visalia Branch of the Tulare County Library System.
