Forms part of a group of field materials documenting Hubert Brady performing Anglo-American music on July 18 and 31, 1939, collected by Sidney Robertson Cowell in Columbia, Tuolumne County, California.

This photograph was made during Sidney Robertson Cowell's documentation of Hubert Brady performing Anglo-American music in Columbia, California, on either July 18 or July 31, 1939.

Cowell directed the W.P.A. California Folk Music Project, which recorded and photographed traditional musicians across Northern California between 1938 and 1940. She worked across immigrant communities rather than focusing on a single tradition, creating a collection that documents Armenian, Icelandic, Italian, Portuguese, Mexican, Irish, and Serbian musicians.

Brady's sessions in Columbia, a town in Tuolumne County, were part of this broader effort. The recordings and photographs from the project are held by the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
