About this photograph
Arnold Genthe photographed a subject identified as Lilliandre in 1931. The record preserves a 5 x 7 inch safety negative from the session.
Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style and maintained a studio in New York during this period, having relocated there from San Francisco in 1911. He continued photographing into the 1940s.
The Library of Congress acquired approximately 20,000 items from Genthe's unclaimed studio after his death in 1942. This portrait forms part of that collection, which includes several thousand studio portraits alongside other photographic work.
Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
