Forms part of a group of field materials documenting Sal Lucido performing an unaccompanied Sicilian song on February 11, 1939, collected by Sidney Robertson Cowell in Martinez, California.

This photograph shows Sal Lucido in left profile, taken during a field recording session on February 11, 1939, in Martinez, California. Lucido performed an unaccompanied Sicilian song that day for Sidney Robertson Cowell, who photographed him as part of her documentation.

Cowell directed the W.P.A. California Folk Music Project between 1938 and 1940, recording and photographing traditional musicians across Northern California. She worked deliberately across immigrant communities rather than within a single tradition, documenting Armenian, Icelandic, Italian, Portuguese, Mexican, Irish, and Serbian performers. The project's materials are held by the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
