Name erroneously listed as "Shabazian" on photograph caption. Forms part of a group of field materials documenting Siranoosh Shapazian performing Armenian and Armeno-Turkish songs on October 30, collected by Sidney Robertson Cowell in Fowler, California.

This photograph documents Siranoosh Shapazian during a recording session on October 30, 1939, in Fowler, California. The archive notes that her surname was misspelled as "Shabazian" in the original caption. She performed Armenian and Armeno-Turkish songs for the session.

Sidney Robertson Cowell collected the recording and made this photograph as part of the W.P.A. California Folk Music Project. Between 1938 and 1940, Cowell recorded and photographed traditional musicians across Northern California, working deliberately across the state's immigrant communities rather than focusing on any single tradition.

The photograph and its associated field materials are held by the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
