1 negative : glass ; 5 x 7 in.

This glass negative from Arnold Genthe's studio shows an unidentified man. The archive catalogued the exposure to 1906.

Genthe kept a studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911 before relocating to New York. He worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style. After his death in 1942, the Library of Congress acquired roughly 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio.

The subject's identity was not recorded. Among Genthe's several thousand studio portraits, many remain unidentified, their names lost to time despite the survival of the negatives themselves.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
