Forms part of a group of field materials documenting Warde, Pat, and Bogue Ford performing Anglo-American songs on September 3, 1939, collected by Sidney Robertson Cowell in Boomtown [Central Valley], Shasta County, California.

This portrait of Warde H. Ford was made by Sidney Robertson Cowell on September 3, 1939, in Boomtown, a settlement in Shasta County, California. Ford performed Anglo-American songs that day alongside Pat and Bogue Ford, and Cowell documented the session with field recordings and photographs.

Cowell directed the W.P.A. California Folk Music Project, which recorded and photographed traditional musicians across Northern California between 1938 and 1940. She worked across the state's immigrant communities rather than focusing on a single tradition, documenting performers from Armenian, Icelandic, Italian, Portuguese, Mexican, Irish, and Serbian backgrounds. The project's materials are held by the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
