Public domain historical photograph of Wesley M. Stevenson from Dinuba, Tulare County, California, taken in 1914 during the World War I era.

Wesley M. Stevenson of Dinuba, Tulare County, appears in a portrait made between 1914 and 1918, during the years of the First World War. The photographer is not recorded.

The United States entered the war in April 1917. Studios photographed enlistees in uniform before departure, often making the only formal portrait a young man would sit for. Families kept copies at home.

Tulare County lies in California's San Joaquin Valley, a farming region settled in the late nineteenth century and reliant on irrigated agriculture. The county library maintains a collection of local history photographs documenting ordinary residents, families, schools and businesses rather than public figures.
