A 1916 studio photograph of Clara Hawley Patterson Layson. At this time she was the widow of California pioneer George W. Patterson and had separated from her 2nd husband, Reverend Humboldt Layson. She was the daughter of California pioneer James Hawley. She was the wealthiest widow in Alameda County. This photograph was taken about a year before she died.
