1 negative : glass ; 5 x 7 in.

Arnold Genthe photographed Alexander Goldstein in 1909, producing this glass plate negative in his San Francisco studio. The 5 x 7 inch negative is part of a collection of roughly 20,000 items the Library of Congress acquired from Genthe's unclaimed studio after his death in 1942.

Genthe maintained his San Francisco studio from 1896 to 1911 before relocating to New York. Working in the soft-focus pictorialist style, he created several thousand studio portraits over a four-decade career. Nothing further is recorded about the sitter or the circumstances of this sitting.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
