About this photograph
Arnold Genthe photographed Horace Kelland in 1930. The resulting portrait was captured on a 5 x 7 inch nitrate negative.
Genthe maintained a studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911 before relocating to New York, where he continued working into the 1940s. He practiced the soft-focus pictorialist style throughout his career. After Genthe's death in 1942, the Library of Congress acquired approximately 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio, including several thousand studio portraits like this one.
The archive record provides no information about Horace Kelland himself.
