About this photograph
This lantern slide shows a portrait of Mrs. Patrick Campbell, photographed by Arnold Genthe in 1896.
Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style across a career of four decades. He kept a studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911 and then moved to New York, where he worked into the 1940s.
The slide is held by the Library of Congress, which acquired roughly 20,000 items from Genthe's unclaimed studio after his death in 1942.
Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
