1 negative : glass ; 5 x 7 in.

This glass negative preserves a portrait made by Arnold Genthe in 1918. The subject's name appears in the title as Prokofieff, but the record offers no further identification.

Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style and maintained a studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911 before relocating to New York, where he continued photographing into the 1940s. The Library of Congress acquired roughly 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio after his death in 1942.

The negative measures five by seven inches, a common format for studio portrait work of the period. The 1918 date places the sitting in Genthe's New York years, seven years after he left San Francisco.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
