1 negative : glass ; 5 x 7 in. | Photograph shows dancer Olive Craddock (1894-1926), who was also known as Roshanara. (Source: Flickr Commons project, 2014)

Arnold Genthe photographed the dancer Olive Craddock in 1917. Craddock performed under the name Roshanara and lived from 1894 to 1926.

Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style. By 1917 he had moved his studio from San Francisco to New York, where he continued photographing into the 1940s. His archive includes hundreds of dance photographs alongside studio portraits and other subjects.

The photograph survives as a glass negative measuring five by seven inches, now held by the Library of Congress. The library acquired approximately 20,000 items from Genthe's unclaimed studio after his death in 1942.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
