About this photograph

Rudolph Michaelis and friends gathered for Thanksgiving dinner in the midwestern United States on November 29, 1900. Michaelis appears to have been the photographer.

Beyond these basic facts, little is documented about the occasion. The identities of those pictured, the specific location within the Midwest, and the relationship between Michaelis and his companions are not recorded. The photograph survives as evidence of turn-of-the-century Thanksgiving observance, but the stories of the individuals around that table remain unknown.
