Angelo Zunino at his shoe repair shop at 904 Grant Avenue, San Francisco in 1913. Historic public-domain photograph showing early 20th century business.

Angelo Zunino stands at his shoe repair shop at 904 Grant Avenue, San Francisco, photographed in 1913. The image comes from the Zunino Family and shows an early twentieth-century business interior.

Between roughly 1880 and 1920, some 20 million people arrived in the United States, most from southern and eastern Europe. Studio portraits and family photographs often bracketed that journey, made at home to leave with relatives or soon after arrival and posted back as evidence of having got there and found work.

The photograph is one of many made publicly available through California Revealed, a statewide programme that digitises material held by California libraries, archives, museums and historical societies.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
