1 negative : safety ; 5 x 7 in.

Arnold Genthe photographed the Ashton children in 1926. The negative was made on safety film, a non-flammable stock that had become standard for studio work by the mid-1920s.

Genthe maintained a portrait studio in New York during this period, having relocated from San Francisco in 1911. He worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style. After his death in 1942, the Library of Congress acquired roughly 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio, including several thousand studio portraits.

The archive record does not identify which Ashton family sat for this portrait or provide the children's names.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
