1 negative : nitrate ; 4 x 5 in. or smaller.

Arnold Genthe photographed the family of Medill McCormick in 1927. The image was preserved as a nitrate negative measuring four by five inches or smaller.

Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style. He maintained a studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911 before relocating to New York, where he continued photographing into the 1940s.

The negative is now held by the Library of Congress, which acquired roughly 20,000 items from Genthe's unclaimed studio after his death in 1942. The collection includes several thousand studio portraits alongside hundreds of other photographs.

The record does not identify which members of the McCormick family sat for this portrait or provide information about the circumstances of the sitting.
