About this photograph
Arnold Genthe photographed a Mr. Lhevinne in 1909, producing a glass plate negative measuring five by seven inches.
Genthe kept a studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911, working in the soft-focus pictorialist style. After his death in 1942, the Library of Congress acquired roughly 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio, including several thousand studio portraits.
The record does not identify Mr. Lhevinne further or indicate the occasion for the sitting.
