Historical portrait of Walter Hurlbut from 1916, son of Carl and Edna Hurlbut. Public-domain photograph from the Internet Archive collection.

This 1916 portrait shows Walter Hurlbut, identified in the archive record as the son of Carl and Edna Hurlbut. The photographer is not known.

The photograph comes from the Tulare County Library's local history collection. Tulare County sits in California's San Joaquin Valley, a farming region that saw heavy settlement in the late nineteenth century and relied on irrigated agriculture. The county library holds a large collection of local history photographs documenting ordinary residents, families, schools, and businesses rather than public figures.

The image was digitised through California Revealed, a statewide programme that makes material from California libraries, archives, museums, and historical societies publicly available.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
