1 negative : glass ; 5 x 7 in.

This glass plate negative captures a portrait of a woman identified as Miss Page Brown, photographed by Arnold Genthe in 1907. The image was made during Genthe's San Francisco period, when he maintained a studio in the city.

Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style. His San Francisco studio operated from 1896 to 1911, after which he relocated to New York and continued working into the 1940s. Following his death in 1942, the Library of Congress acquired approximately 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio.

The 5 x 7 inch negative is part of this larger collection, which includes several thousand studio portraits alongside other subjects Genthe photographed throughout his career. No further details about Miss Brown or the circumstances of this sitting are provided in the archive record.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
