1 negative : glass ; 5 x 7 in.

Arnold Genthe photographed Miss Lilias Wheeler in 1907. The sitting produced a glass-plate negative measuring five by seven inches.

Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style. He maintained a studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911 before relocating to New York. After his death in 1942, the Library of Congress acquired approximately 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio.

The archive record gives no further information about the sitter or the circumstances of the portrait. Genthe's studio work from this period consisted largely of formal portraits alongside his better-known documentation of other subjects.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
