1 negative : glass ; 5 x 7 in.

Arnold Genthe photographed Father Frieden in 1907, producing a glass plate negative that measures five by seven inches. The photograph was made during Genthe's San Francisco period, when he maintained a studio in the city from 1896 to 1911.

Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style. After leaving San Francisco, he relocated to New York and continued photographing into the 1940s. He died in 1942, and the Library of Congress later acquired approximately 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio. The collection includes several thousand studio portraits along with extensive documentary work.

The record does not identify Father Frieden further or indicate whether the title refers to a religious position or a surname.
