1 negative : safety ; 5 x 7 in.

Arnold Genthe photographed a woman named Ida in 1934. The image was captured on a 5 x 7 inch safety negative.

Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style. He maintained a studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911 before relocating to New York, where he continued working into the 1940s. After his death in 1942, the Library of Congress acquired roughly 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio.

The negative is now part of that collection, which includes several thousand studio portraits alongside other photographic work.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
