1 negative : safety ; 5 x 7 in.

Arnold Genthe photographed this group portrait in 1934, recording it on a 5 x 7 inch safety negative.

Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style and maintained a studio in New York during this period, having relocated there from San Francisco in 1911. The Library of Congress later acquired approximately 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio after his death in 1942.

The archive record identifies the subjects only as the "Stepanek group" but provides no further information about who they were or why they sat for this portrait. The negative remains part of the Library's Genthe collection, which consists primarily of studio portraits alongside his other photographic work.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
