1 negative : glass ; 5 x 7 in.

This glass negative shows a portrait of writer Jack London, photographed by Arnold Genthe in 1906.

Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style and maintained a studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911. The Library of Congress acquired roughly 20,000 items from his studio after his death in 1942.

London was at the height of his literary career in 1906, the year this portrait was made. The photograph exists as a 5 x 7 inch glass negative, part of the larger Genthe collection that includes several thousand studio portraits alongside images of San Francisco's Chinatown, dance photographs, and autochromes.
