1 negative : safety ; 5 x 7 in.

This portrait shows the Diebold twins, photographed in 1934. The image survives as a 5 x 7 inch safety negative.

Arnold Genthe created the photograph. He worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style and maintained studios in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911, then in New York through the 1940s. By 1934 he was operating from New York.

The Library of Congress acquired roughly 20,000 items from Genthe's unclaimed studio after his death in 1942. Beyond studio portraits like this one, the collection includes dance photographs and hundreds of images documenting San Francisco's Chinatown.

The record does not identify the twins by first name or provide information about their ages, relationship to Genthe, or the circumstances of the sitting.
