1 negative : nitrate ; 5 x 7 in.

This negative records a studio portrait of a man identified as Mr. Asano, photographed by Arnold Genthe in 1921.

Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style and maintained a studio in New York during this period, having moved there from San Francisco in 1911. The Library of Congress acquired roughly 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio after his death in 1942.

The archive record provides no further information about the sitter's first name, occupation, or reason for sitting. The 5 x 7 inch nitrate negative was a standard format for studio portraiture of the era.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
