1 negative : nitrate ; 5 x 7 in.

Arnold Genthe photographed an unidentified woman named Miss Pruyn in 1921. The original negative, made on nitrate film stock, measured five by seven inches.

Genthe maintained a portrait studio in New York during this period, having relocated from San Francisco a decade earlier. He worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style. After his death in 1942, the Library of Congress acquired approximately 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio, including several thousand studio portraits of which this is one.

The record provides no further information about the sitter beyond her surname and the honorific Miss. The photograph survives only as a negative in the archive's collection.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
