1 negative : nitrate ; 5 x 7 in.

Arnold Genthe photographed the Bernstorff children in 1921. The image survives as a 5 x 7 inch nitrate negative now held by the Library of Congress.

Genthe operated a studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911 before relocating to New York, where he continued working into the 1940s. He worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style throughout his career. After his death in 1942, the Library of Congress acquired approximately 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio, including several thousand studio portraits.

The archive record does not identify the individual children or provide details about the Bernstorff family. The photograph appears to have been made during Genthe's New York period, a decade after his move from California.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
