1 negative : glass ; 5 x 7 in.

This portrait of Helen Green was captured by Arnold Genthe on a glass plate negative. The negative measures 5 by 7 inches and is held in the Library of Congress.

Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style. He maintained a studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911 before relocating to New York, where he continued photographing into the 1940s.

By 1916, when this portrait was made, Genthe had already established himself in New York. The Library of Congress acquired roughly 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio following his death in 1942. The collection includes several thousand studio portraits alongside his other photographic work.

The archive record provides no further information about Helen Green herself or the circumstances of the sitting.
