1 negative : glass ; 5 x 7 in.

This glass plate negative by Arnold Genthe records a portrait made at or of Halstead School in 1916. The archive supplies no further information about the subject, the school's location, or the circumstances of the sitting.

Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style across four decades. He maintained a studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911, then moved to New York where he continued working into the 1940s.

The Library of Congress acquired roughly 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio after his death in 1942. The collection includes several thousand studio portraits alongside hundreds of dance photographs and images of San Francisco's Chinatown.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
