1 negative : nitrate ; 5 x 7 in.

Arnold Genthe photographed this portrait in 1921, during his New York period. The subject is identified in the archive only as Lubovska.

Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style. He had kept a studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911 before relocating to New York, where he continued photographing into the 1940s.

The negative is held by the Library of Congress as part of the Genthe collection, which the institution acquired from his unclaimed studio after his death in 1942. The collection comprises roughly 20,000 items, including several thousand studio portraits.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
