1 negative : glass ; 5 x 7 in.

Arnold Genthe photographed an unidentified Miss Patterson in 1912, the year after he relocated his studio from San Francisco to New York. The glass plate negative is held by the Library of Congress.

Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style. After his death in 1942, the Library of Congress acquired roughly 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio, including several thousand studio portraits alongside his other work.

The archive gives no further information about the sitter. The portrait dates to the early months of Genthe's New York period, following more than a decade operating a studio in San Francisco.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
