1 negative : nitrate ; 5 x 7 in.

Arnold Genthe photographed a woman identified only as Miss Williamson in 1919. The negative, held by the Library of Congress, was produced during Genthe's New York period.

Genthe maintained a studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911 before relocating to New York, where he continued working into the 1940s. After his death in 1942, the Library of Congress acquired roughly 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio. The collection includes several thousand studio portraits alongside photographs of San Francisco's Chinatown, dance images, and hundreds of autochromes.

The record provides no further information about the sitter's full name or the circumstances of the sitting. Like many studio portraits of the era, this negative documents a moment in the life of someone whose identity has been preserved only in fragmentary form.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
