About this photograph
Arnold Genthe photographed Mrs. Wolf in 1919. The portrait was captured on a 5 x 7 inch nitrate negative.
Genthe maintained a portrait studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911 before relocating to New York, where he continued working into the 1940s. He practiced the soft-focus pictorialist style throughout his career. After his death in 1942, the Library of Congress acquired approximately 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio, including several thousand studio portraits.
The negative is now part of the Genthe collection at the Library of Congress. No further details about Mrs. Wolf's identity have been recorded in the archive.
