Lubovska, portrait photograph

Archive record

About this photograph
Arnold Genthe photographed this portrait of a subject identified only as Lubovska in 1920. The negative, measuring five by seven inches, is held on nitrate film.
Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style and maintained a studio in New York during this period, having relocated there from San Francisco in 1911. He continued photographing into the 1940s.
The Library of Congress acquired approximately 20,000 items from Genthe's unclaimed studio following his death in 1942. Studio portraits form a substantial part of that collection.
Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
