Lubovska, portrait photograph

Archive record
1 negative : nitrate ; 5 x 7 in.
About this photograph
This portrait was taken by Arnold Genthe, who worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style. The original negative is held in the Library of Congress collection that came from Genthe's studio.
Genthe maintained a studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911 before relocating to New York, where he continued photographing into the 1940s. After his death in 1942, the Library of Congress acquired roughly 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio.
The subject's name, Lubovska, appears in the archive title, but no further details about the sitter are recorded. The negative was created on nitrate film stock, a common photographic medium of the period that required careful handling and storage.
Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
