1 negative : nitrate ; 5 x 7 in.

Arnold Genthe photographed a subject identified as Lubovska in 1920. The portrait was recorded as a 5 by 7 inch nitrate negative.

Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style. He maintained a studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911, then moved to New York, where he continued working into the 1940s. After his death in 1942, the Library of Congress acquired roughly 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio.

The collection includes several thousand studio portraits alongside other photographic work. This negative forms part of that acquisition. Beyond the sitter's name as recorded, the archive provides no further details about who Lubovska was or the circumstances of the sitting.

Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
