About this photograph
Arnold Genthe photographed an unidentified woman named Miss Vincent in his studio in 1919. The original negative, preserved on nitrate film measuring five by seven inches, is held in the Library of Congress.
Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style. By 1919 he had moved his practice to New York, having previously kept a studio in San Francisco from 1896 to 1911. After his death in 1942, the Library of Congress acquired roughly 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio.
The archive record provides no further information about the sitter's identity, the occasion for the portrait, or what became of Miss Vincent after this sitting.
Compiled from the catalogue record and reference notes on the formats and events involved. The archive record above is the primary source.
