About this photograph
This portrait of a woman identified only as Miss Vincent was photographed by Arnold Genthe in 1919. The image survives as a nitrate negative measuring five by seven inches.
Genthe worked in the soft-focus pictorialist style and maintained a studio in New York during this period, having moved there from San Francisco in 1911. He continued photographing into the 1940s. After his death in 1942, the Library of Congress acquired roughly 20,000 items from his unclaimed studio, including several thousand studio portraits of which this is one.
The record provides no further information about the sitter's identity beyond her surname and the honorific Miss.
